2012-03-25, It's very true,what people are isyang about Europe being so different with things like nudity than the US. I'm an American living Scandinavia. About a 20 minute walk from my house,there's a beach where one side of it is a 100% nude beach. This is an area that is right out in the open for all to see,just over on one side so families don't actually have to sit right next to a nudist. No one cares,they bring their families there and even sit all the way down near the nudes (there's an invisible line that marks the nude beach from the family beach,so the families kind of know how far down towards the nudists is OK),and children of all ages see naked people sitting around or swimming. Also,as on most beaches here,woman are free to be topless,no one cares. There are also areas that aren't beaches,where there's a wall dividing the road from the sea,where it's just a ledge on the other side of the wall and then big rocks where,if you go down there in the summer,you will often see naked women or men sunning themselves. Of course,most of the nudists are quite old,but still,it's the fact that no one cares. People,even grown-ups,change on the beach with only minor covering up,not freaking out if something shows when they're changing into their regular clothes. In fact,people think you're weird if you try too hard to cover your body,like you're some kind of prude.At the same time with all of this nudity at the beach,and even though porn magazines are displayed at child-eye view,women here dress quite modestly. No one has their breasts or butts hanging out (well except for certain young boys,who for some reason think that everyone wants to see their gray,faded,torn underwear,so wear their trousers below the butt and shirts at the waistline. Weird),even if the girls wear short skirts,the always wear leggings or tights. Even though their styles are very boring,mostly all black and plain,they still look relatively nice.So,even with all of the nudity,people still conduct themselves in a much more civilized way that most Americans. Here,we don't have perverts or rapists running around,and sexuality is pretty open,even gays don't have to hide,yet everyone is pretty calm and blase9 about nudity and sex.
